McCrory to unveil 2-year NC government budget plan

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Gov. Pat McCrory is ready to release his first 2-year state budget proposal - one that his office suggests will focus on education, the economy and making North Carolina government more efficient.

The Republican governor planned to unveil his spending plan Wednesday morning at the old Capitol. The measure will cover his recommendation starting July 1 through mid-2015. McCrory's office released a video Tuesday labeled a budget "teaser" that mentioned the three priorities.

McCrory has said repeatedly there's no additional money for new programs for the coming year but considers building repairs and information technology improvements among the state's top needs.

The budget proposal will be reviewed by lawmakers, who will pass their own spending plan and ask McCrory to sign it into law.
