Posted: Updated:
Wake County was ranked the healthiest county in North Carolina according to a report released Wednesday by the County Health Rankings and Roadmaps program.

This the fourth year in a row Wake County has received this honor.

The County Health Rankings and Roadmaps program is a joint effort between the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The program  ranks the health of more than 3,000 counties in all 50 states.

25 factors are examined in the ranking process. These factors include rates of childhood poverty, rates of smoking, obesity levels, teen birth rates, access to physicians and dentists, rates of high school graduation and college attendance, access to healthy foods, levels of physical inactivity and percentages of children living in single parent households.

"We are extremely proud to have been ranked the healthiest county in North Carolina for the fourth year in a row," said Wake County Human Services Director Ramon Rojano. "The County works closely with the medical community as well as partner agencies and programs to ensure that our residents have the tools they need to be healthy. The rankings serve as a score card that inspires all communities in the country to keep improving."

The report is published online at www.countyhealthrankings.org. The report includes the ability to compare counties within states.
