WILSON, N.C. -
Highway Patrol Troopers responded to a fatal, single car accident in Wilson around 1:15 Thursday morning.
First Sgt. J.A. Cameron tells 9 On Your Side it happened on Elm City Rd. near Upchurch Rd.
The car was traveling southbound on Elm City Rd. when it crossed the center line, ran off the shoulder, and overcorrected before hitting a utility pole on the right side of the road.
Troopers say the 30-year-old male driver was the only person in the car. They say he died on the scene.
Investigating troopers do not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash, but say the driver could have been speeding.
