Community members are mourning the loss of Havelock High School teacher Amanda Lawrence-Lane, known to her students as Ms. Lawrence.

School officials say she had a medical emergency during the school day Friday, and was rushed to Carolina East Medical Center where she later died.

According to the school's website, Lawrence had been a teacher at Havelock High School since 2002. She taught Algebra and Calculus and was an ECU grad.

Community members say she will be greatly missed. Ashley Buffa, a student from Havelock High School, wrote a song called "She's Home" in honor of Lawrence.

Listen to the song here.

"I was a witness to her death, and it was heartbreaking and traumatizing. I had a lot of emotions that I didn't know how to process, and I needed to express them some how. I went home and I wrote this song. It really helped me to come to terms with everything. I hope that this song can help other people too with the deaths of loved ones," Buffa wrote on the song's description.

School officials say extra counselors will be available at the school for students on Monday.

Arrangements for Ms. Lawrence are:

Visitation:  Thursday, March 28th from 6-8 pm at Rouse Funeral Home in La Grange

Funeral Services:  Friday, March 29th at 2 pm at Rouse Funeral Home in La Grange
