Deputies in Carteret County arrested Jennifer Barnes after investigating missing animal medications. The Brandt Foundation employed Barnes as a veterinary technician. She was responsible for the inventory control of medications. The mobile vet service ‘Spay to Save' was missing a number of hydromorphone vials and called in the sheriff's office to investigate.
The investigation involved the SBI's Environmental Crimes Unit and the Pharmaceutical Drug Division of the Carteret Sheriff's Office. The joint investigation concluded that Barnes was responsible for the thefts. She was released on a $25,000 bond and has already made her first court appearance.
