2 sisters killed in Highway 11 accident

GRIFTON, N.C. -

Two sisters are dead after their car collided with an 18-wheeler.

It happened just before 9:30 Thursday morning on Highway 11 near Grifton.

The family is understandably, still trying to come to terms with this.

They say the two women were actually leaving a family body shop to run an errand. Just seconds later, they heard a loud crash.

Flashing lights filled the stretch of Highway 11 for nearly 2 and a half hours. Traffic blocked in two lanes.

An 18-wheeler jack-knifed across the road, a car covered by a tarp in pieces.

Shawn Brooks said goodbye to his grandmother and great aunt just seconds before.

"She just left my shop to do my bank deposit run and she said 'I'm going to do this run and I'm going shopping,'" said Brooks. It was the last time he'd ever see them alive. "I ran over there and as soon as I saw them in that car I knew they were gone"

Brooks says his grandmother, Jackie Boscarino, was behind the wheel of the car. She had raised him since he was a young boy.

"My grandmother always, she looked out for everybody," said Brooks.

"Very energetic. She was around 75 years old and acted like she was 20," said Amanda Brooks, relative.

Boscarino's sister, Ann Marie Toulouse, was in the passenger seat.

Troopers say their car pulled out in front of the 18-wheeler on Highway 11. They say the truck driver did everything he could to stop.

Brooks says the memory of this day will never fade.

"Now my rock is gone so now I gotta step up to the plate and carry on," said Brooks.
