How would you handle a road rage situation?

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

The road rage video out of Carteret County has sparked all kinds of buzz, but would you know what to do if someone with road rage was following you?

"I changed lanes going around another car, changed back, the next thing you know he was like right up next to me, rolling his window down like pointing down, ‘I'm going to kick your a**'" said one of the victims of the road rage fight.

During a 911 call he said Bradley Turner followed them for miles before getting out and starting the fight.

"I didn't instigate nothing, we drove the whole time he stayed on my a** riding my truck, tailgating the whole time," the victim said.

So what should you do before you find yourself in this situation?

9 On Your Side road along with NC Highway Patrol to find out.

Trooper W.A Hardison says road rage falls under aggressive driving.

"Weaving in and out of traffic, high rates of speed, following too close, things like that," he said.

He says first, if someone is on your bumper you should keep driving.

"Dial 911 or *HP if you think someone is following you," he added.

Another tip: look for a safe place to get help.

"If there's a police department or somewhere close by or somewhere safe to pull over, or a sheriff's office, try to avoid any confrontation with them," said Hardison.

He says enforcing road rage can be tricky since, unlike the Carteret County case, it usually goes unseen.

But if you get caught, you could be facing an aggressive or a reckless driving charge.

Troopers say if you're not a victim but see road rage happening, call law enforcement.
