Dems, NAACP criticize early voting limits

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Democrats and the North Carolina NAACP are both heavily criticizing a Republican bill proposed this week.

Lawmakers in the House and Senate filed bills this week that will change when and how North Carolinians can cast a ballot before Election Day.

Senate Bill 428 would cut the early voting period from two weeks to one week and would eliminate same-day voter registration.

House Bill 451 goes even further. It would outlaw early voting on Sunday and straight ticket voting.

In a press conference Friday afternoon the North Carolina NAACP condemned the bills, calling it voter suppression.

The groups also oppose a GOP led effort this year to require photo identification to vote.
