DURHAM, N.C. -

Ben Fultz drove in a pair of runs in the second inning and Brett Mabry tossed 5.2 scoreless innings as East Carolina (14-14) picked up a weekend series win over N.C. Central (18-11) at the historic Durham Athletic Park Saturday afternoon.

Fultz roped a two-RBI double and Bryan Bass followed with an RBI single in the top of the second putting ECU up 3-0, a lead it would not relinquish. Zach Houchins singled to left center and Drew Reynolds followed with a bunt single to third before Fultz' cleared the bases with a shot to right center. Bass scored Fultz on the fourth base hit in the frame, a single to right field, where he would take second on a fielding error by Ryan Thompson.

Brett Mabry picked up his first career win working 5.2 scoreless frames allowing five hits with three punch-outs. Starter David Lucroy struggled in his outing lasting just one inning where he allowed a pair of hits, three walks and one run (earned). Jake Harris tossed a scoreless 1.1 innings giving up a pair of hits and Drew Reynolds retired the side in the ninth on just eight pitches.

Glenn Frye (3-2) suffered the loss allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits with two walks and a pair of punch-outs in six full innings of work. Jacob Russell scattered two hits over three innings of relief work allowing a walk.

Hood's RBI single to right field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second pulled NCCU within two, 3-1. The Eagles loaded the bases when Lucroy issued three-straight walks to start the inning before being lifted for Mabry, who inherited a 2-1 count and promptly struck out Ryan Collins. Akeem Hood singled home Franceschetti before Mabry induced a routine double play off the bat of Zach Lee.

Jack Reinheimer extended ECU's lead to three, 4-1, in the top of the fourth inning. Bass singled up the middle with two outs and took second on Travis Watkins' walk before coming home on Reinheimer's single to right center.

ECU added another run in the fifth on Reynolds' sac fly pushing the lead to 5-1. Cannon led off the inning with a double to left center, moved over to third on Houchins ground out to second before darting home on Reynolds' fly ball to left field.

NCCU had plenty of chances to score in the contest leaving 10 runners on base with seven in scoring position. But four double plays from the Pirates defense kept the Eagles off the scoreboard.

ECU recorded 11 hits on the afternoon with Bass, Cannon and Fultz each collecting two. Four of the Pirates 11 base knocks went for extra bases, while eight of the starting nine posted at least one hit.

The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 2 when they play host to instate rival No. 27 NC State at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET).
