Suspect crashes into Lenoir County deputy's car during chase

Posted: Updated:

A man suspected of stealing a car lead deputies on a car chase ending with the suspect hitting a deputy's patrol car.

It started around 8:15 p.m. Sunday when deputies attempted to pull over Clayton Moore of Kinston.  Moore was driving a Dodge Status near NC 11 and Skinners Bypass.

Deputies believe Moore is connected to a stolen Toyota  Corolla and purse that happened earlier Sunday.

The chase went from NC 11 to NC 55 west where Deputies deployed stop sticks near Sandy Bottom.  The vehicle's tires were blown but Moore kept driving down N. Croom Bland Road, about 1 mile from NC 55.

Moore struck a deputies vehicle and the chase ended.  There was very minor damage to the patrol car.

Moore, who refused to exit the vehicle, was removed and found to be intoxicated.  The license tag of the vehicle Moore was suspected of stealing was in the vehicle.

Moore is currently being charged with DWI, larceny of the pocketbook, felony larceny of the Toyota Corolla, felony eluding, and multiple traffic violations.
