Trooper shooting suspect due in court

DURHAM, N.C. -

A man charged with the shooting of a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper is set to appear in court Tuesday.

Mikel Brady is scheduled to appear on charges of attempted first degree murder and assaulting a law enforcement officer with a firearm. He was indicted last month on the felony charges.

Investigators say Brady shot Trooper Michael Potts during a routine traffic stop on U.S.-70 in Durham in February.

Potts was shot five times, including twice in the face.

Brady was a fugitive from Vermont. His pregnant girlfriend Lindsey Smith was charged as an accessory and remains in custody.

Trooper Potts is recovering at home. He came to WNCN's studios recently and said he appreciates life and family even more now.
