Student brings guns to Camp Lejeune High School

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -

Base officials are investigating after they say a male student brought two handguns on campus.

Camp Lejeune spokesperson Capt. Joshua Smith tells us it happened last Thursday at Camp Lejeune High School on base.

Smith says school officials promptly followed procedures and confiscated the guns. He says they did not have ammunition in them.

Smith couldn't tell us how old the student is or if he will face charges. There is no indication as to why he brought the guns to school.

Base officials say they are working with NCIS on this investigation.

Smith credits a recent school shooter drill from October for the school's quick response to the threat.
