GREENVILLE, N.C. -

A backpack brings out the bomb squad in Greenville, after a man accidentally left it at the social security office.

Homeland security called Greenville Police Wednesday morning, about a suspicious package. It turns out the man who left it, didn't realize it was missing until hours later.

"I just got on my bike and just, forgot about my bag until I got all the way down the street, I said I left my bag," said the man who left the bag.

The man, who doesn't want to be identified, says he couldn't believe forgetting his backpack, would bring out the bomb squad.

The abandoned bag forced employees to be evacuated and shut down the office.

Greenville Police say this bag proved to be harmless, and the scare ended up being going good practice.

"You don't know what you have until you go through processes and procedures, fortunately everything worked out," said Sergeant Joe Friday of the Greenville Police Department.

The man who left eh back pack says it was freak accident

"I really feel bad because of the people. I mean I feel some kind of way that my bag caused all this disturbance," said the man who left the bag.

Investigators cleared the scene just after the two o'clock.
