JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

Mothers Against Drunk Driving honored the Jacksonville Police Department with their Law Enforcement Award of Excellence.

Tuesday night the Jacksonville City council recognized the department's achievement and celebrated the traffic enforcement efforts that resulted in no DWI fatalities during 2012. Jacksonville Police have been working in DWI checkpoints, supporting communication and record checks, and have been proactive in reaching out to the community to provide education about traffic laws and enforcement.

Public Safety Director Mike Yaniero spoke on the award "This achievement is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of each individual officer patrolling our roadways and the support staff who provide assistance in the background".
