Student hit by car in Hudson

Posted: Updated:

A Fivay High School sophomore is being treated at Bayonet Medical Center after she was hit by two vehicles shortly after dismissal time.

Ocean-Leigh McKenzie Marshall, 16, has serious injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Marshall was walking west to east across Chicago Avenue, toward Chris Street, when she was hit by a Suzuki going north. The impact threw her into the southbound lane, into the path of a pick-up truck.  Troopers say she became wedged under the truck.

Some people say at school dismissal time, Chicago Avenue can get wild.  "Every day, you see like street bikes fly by this road. You see big, jacked up trucks fly by. Sports cars. It's everyday and as a matter of fact it's after when school gets out" said Hayden Meserve, who lives across the street from Fivay.

Pasco Superintendent Kurt Browning said crisis counselors will be on hand on Friday morning, and a recorded message is going home to parents to tell them about the accident. "We will certainly work with the Sheriff's office and see if there's steps that we need to take or the County Traffic department needs to take to insure that we have a place for students to cross safely" said Browning.
