Voter ID proposal up for vote in NC House

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

After what state leaders say was a "deliberative" process, a voter ID bill is up for vote in the North Carolina House.

Under the proposal, voters would be required to show a photo ID at the polls.

That ID could be anything from tribal cards to state employee ID. The only ID card that wouldn't qualify is a private university identification.

If passed, the law would go into effect in 2016.
