Deputies: Currituck woman's assault claim false

MAPLE, N.C. -

--UPDATE--

Deputies in Currituck County say an assault report filed in April was false.

Deputies tell us a woman filed a report saying a man dressed as an officer pulled her over, hit her and sexually assaulted her.

While investigating, deputies found inconsistencies in the victim's story.  On Tuesday, the victim admitted to investigators that she made the whole thing up.  She also admitted her injuries were self-inflicted.

We talked with investigators, who say charges are possible.

--PREVIOUS STORY--

A woman says she was assaulted by a man pretending to be law enforcement.

Deputies in Currituck County say they're investigating the woman's allegation that she was pulled over Thursday morning on Caratoke Highway in Barco and physically assaulted by a male impersonating a law enforcement officer.

He's said to be driving a mid-size white vehicle, no make or model given, with a blue light on the dash. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 40's, brown hair, a mole or birthmark on his face, wearing a black long sleeve shirt,  and what appeared to be a badge on his belt.

Right now, there's no word on who he may be.

If you have information that can help identify the man, contact the Currituck County Sheriff's Office.
