The Pitt County Board of Education had a public meeting around 4 p.m. on Friday to talk about the hiring process for the next superintendent.
The Board decided to use the North Carolina School Boards Association to conduct the search. The cost to conduct the search is $14,500 plus any other costs incurred. It is estimated that the search will not exceed $20,000.
Allison Schafer represented the North Carolina School Boards Association at the meeting today. Shafer presented specific information such as the application that will be used during the search and the timeline for the search. The board wants to fill the position as soon as possible with hopes to have someone before the start of next school year.
Reports about the progress of the candidate search will be presented during open board meetings. People of the community can provide their feedback with surveys that will be made available in English and Spanish. Applications completed by candidates will not be made available for the public.
May 20, 2013 is the deadline for people to apply for the position and advertisements for the opening will begin April 8th.
