Mosquitoes: They're Back!

Posted: Updated:

With warmer temperatures already making their way into our area, the dreaded mosquito season is set to come along with it.

Pitt County Vector Control Manager, Jim Gardner, says the big species to look out for here in the east is the "Asian Tiger"

They will breed in bottle caps, jars, toys, even potato chip bags…anywhere that can hold standing water.

Now health departments are trying to get people to take preventative measures before there's a need to spray.

"The biggest thing that people can do is what we call "Tip and Toss." If you don't need it, toss it out. If it can collect water, tip it over and pour it out. They have to have water to breed," said Gardner.

If you think you have a mosquito problem, you can contact your local Environmental Health Division.
