Naked man dies after Raleigh police use Taser

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

A Raleigh man died early Wednesday after being tased by police following an altercation.

Raleigh police say they were called to the intersection of Wiggs and Mial Streets in the pre-dawn hours, with reports of a man running naked in a nearby church parking lot.

"There's a naked man--walking around--yelling at the top of his lungs," said a neighbor in a call to 911.

Officers say the man "became physically aggressive in his dealings with officers," and police used a Taser on him.

The man, who has been identified as 45-year-old Thomas Sadler, collapsed and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened right in front of Sadler's home, which is across the street from Emmanuel Baptist Church.

The home is owned by a woman who lives down the street. She was too upset to talk about what happened.

Neighbors told WNCN, Sadler lived alone, and kept to himself. But was known for odd behavior.

WNCN has learned, Sadler has a lengthy criminal history, and was out on parole when he died.

Raleigh Police also confirm they had been called out to the home multiple times.

The SBI is now investigating the department's actions.
