UNC-Chapel Hill selected its first female chancellor Friday.
The UNC Board of Governors elected current Dartmouth College interim president Carol Folt to head the country's oldest public university.

Folt will replace Holden Thorp. He's been chancellor since 2008. Thorp resigned following two years of scandals involving academic fraud, improper travel spending by fundraisers, and special treatment for athletes.

Folt has only served as Dartmouth's president for less than a year.

She takes over in Chapel Hill in July.
