Greenville teen jailed on drug and gun charges

A teenager woke up in jail this morning for drug and gun charges.

Greenville Police IMPACT officers arrested 19-year-old William Payton on Thursday afternoon.

While patrolling Best Road, officers say they saw Payton and another person sitting in a car. Police say they appeared to be engaged in drug activity.

When officers approached the car, they say they smelled marijuana. They also say they saw Payton with a 9mm handgun and found out he was carrying cocaine.

Payton is charged with Felony Possession of Cocaine, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Possession of a Handgun by a Minor.

He is in jail under a $7,500 secured bond.
