Pasco High School vandalized

Posted: Updated:
PASCO COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Police and school officials are looking for the people responsible for vandalizing Pasco High School and leaving a stolen car in the commons area early Friday morning.

The vandalism included graffiti tags of "PHS" and "ZHS" – presumably for Pasco High School and rival Zephyrhills High School – and glue and toothpicks in the locks of doors leading into the school.

"It's disheartening," said PHS principal Kari Kadlub. "You take pride in your schools, we take it very serious."

Police say students are the likely suspects in the vandalism, but have not identified any individuals. Those responsible could face a felony charge for the car theft and other criminal mischief charges for the vandalism, with the severity depending on the dollar amount of the damage.

In addition to graffiti on the grounds and walls of the school, police also said several other cars left in the parking lot were vandalized.

There were also words on the stolen blue Ford left on the commons.

"On the front it was ‘4-11-13 we was here dem boys,'" said Elaine Kahbka, whose husband noticed their car was gone from their driveway around 4 a.m.

Kahbka said she had left the keys on the front console.

"I went and woke my wife up, said the car's gone!" Phil Kahbka said.

The Kahbkas have their car back, but are still missing the ignition key. To safeguard against a second theft, they're using a red "club" to lock the steering wheel.

Police and school officials are asking students and the public for any information on the vandalism and theft. The principal said both Crime Stoppers and the school are offering a reward.
