Pirates Slip By Tulane 3-2 in 13 Innings

Posted: Updated:

Zach Houchins went 4-6 with a home run to lead East Carolina to a 3-2, 13 inning win over Tulane in the first game of a three game Conference USA series.

Bryan Bass collected the game winning RBI with a sacrifice fly in the 13th.

Drew Reynolds picked up the win in relief. He pitched 3.1 innings, facing the minimum after replacing Jeff Hoffman, who was outstanding in his own right. The Pirates gave up just three hits in the 13 innings.

Tulane scored two runs on two Pirate errors in the 9th to send the game to extra innings.

East Carolina and Tulane will now play game two of the series tomorrow. The two teams may play two games on Saturday depending on the weather forecast. The first pitch is at 3pm.
