NEW BERN, N.C. -

The Craven County Sheriff's Department and the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport are continuing to look into a string of  vandalized vehicles.

The Craven County Sheriff's Department says at least 39 cars were damaged, and the window above an employee entrance was also vandalized.

Deputies believe the majority of the damaged happened between Sunday April 7th, between midnight and 7.a.m.

Investigators say the person or people responsible used rocks and a metal tripod to smash car windows, sunroofs, and slash tires.

Over the weekend, Marsha Bowes and her husband returned from a week-long vacation to a broken car window.

"It was such a shock; because, when we parked the car we parked under a street light, and we thought it will be safe, but obviously it wasn't ," said Bowes.

Airport director Tom Braaten was surprised someone would target the parking lot.

"Saw some broken window, which was a sign of vandalism; obviously, which we've never had in the almost seven years I've been here. We were a little surprised because people have left us alone very nicely. We called the sheriff's department and they came right out and started the investigation," said Braaten.

The Sheriff's department says they are still investigating the vandalism and do not have any suspects at this time.

Marsha Bowes says she just grateful nothing was taken from her car.

"We were thankful that nothing was taken from the car and that we were able to drive home."
