Greenville native a Pulitzer Prize winner

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

A Greenville native joined the ranks of music greats like Aaron Copeland and Winton Marsallis.

She's a Pulitzer Prize winner.

Caroline Shaw grew up with music, learning the violin at age two. Now, she's the youngest ever Pulitzer winner at age 30.

She performed the winning entry partita for eight voices with her group, Roomful of Teeth.

Shaw didn't tell people she entered the contest, but found out when her phone blew up according to her father ECU physician Robert Shaw.

For now, Shaw is working toward a PHD at Princeton, while performing as a freelance musician in New York.
