Marines don't disclose hearing in urination case

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -

Marine Corps officials say a key court hearing was held at Camp Lejeune last week for the only officer charged over a 2011 YouTube video showing snipers urinating on Taliban corpses in Afghanistan. But they say they forgot to provide the public notice.

Capt. James V. Clement faces charges that include conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman for failing to properly supervise junior Marines and making false statements to investigators.

Marine spokesman Col. Sean D. Gibson said Wednesday that a hearing was held last week to determine whether there is enough evidence against Clement to proceed to trial. Gibson said his office erred and forgot to give notice of the hearing held on the secure base.

No media was present.

Gibson rebuffed a request for access to a court document summarizing the evidence.
