Uptown Greenville demolition underway

GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Work for a student apartment and retail complex in Greenville is under way.

Things are moving along quickly. Demolition has already started in Uptown Greenville.

The Taft building should be gone sometime tomorrow.

Wednesday is the second day of demolition.

The project manager, Thomas Taft Jr., said the new site will benefit students, businesses and the general public.

"The demolition of the entire site, which includes the three apartment building at Georgetown, the one eight unit building at the corner of 8th and Cotanche and the Hams building will all be finished in about three weeks. So you'll really get an idea of the size and expansiveness of this site once it's all cleared out."

They will also build a four story parking garage in the area.

Taft says they hope to start construction in about a month and finish in 2015.
