RALEIGH, N.C. -

The unemployment rate in North Carolina fell to 9.2 percent in March.

That's down from 9.4 percent in February.

The number of people unemployed fell nearly 12,000 between February and March, but the number of people with jobs also dropped by nearly 11,000.

Nationally, unemployment was down to 7.6 in March from 7.7 percent in February.

Unemployment continues to fluctuate in part because thousands continue to decide whether to join the competition for jobs or give up.
