RALEIGH, N.C. -

A sporting event for wounded and injured veterans and soldiers will be held at three Triangle locations in May.

The Valor Games Southeast marks the first time the games will be played outside Chicago. The Southeast games are the first of four competitions nationally aimed at linking wounded and injured veteran and active duty military to their local communities.

The contests will be held in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill on May 21, 22, and 23. About 100 former or current member of the armed forces will compete in events include rowing, archery, cycling, air rifle and volleyball.

Many of the competitors are soldiers who were injured in the line of duty.

Bridge II sports, a Durham nonprofit, will be hosting the Valor Games Southeast. This includes a three-day competition in adapted sports for wounded and injured veterans and active-duty service members.

The public is welcomed to attend the games and admission at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Dean E. Smith Center and N.C. State Fairgrounds are free. Funding for these games is provided by the U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Chicago hosted the first Valor Games in 2011 and this year will be the first time the games will be offered in a series of four regional competitions nationwide. Following the Valor Games Southeast, the Valor Games Far West will be held in June, The Valor Games Midwest held in August and the Valor Games are set for September.
