Notre Dame to face Triangle teams in football

Posted: Updated:

North Carolina will play football at Notre Dame in  2014, Duke will play at Notre Dame in 2016 and the Irish will come to N.C. State in 2016 as part of a schedule announced Friday by the ACC.

Notre Dame will play five ACC teams each year as part of a new arrangement between the league and the traditional football power. Notre Dame is moving to the ACC for all sports but football, but will play ACC foes on a regular basis.

Also, the Irish and NBC announced an extension of their partnership for 10 years, through the 2025 season. The partnership began in 1991.

"While our relationship with NBC Sports is longstanding, the more recent merger between NBC and Comcast has opened up additional avenues to expand the breadth of Notre Dame-related sports programming on NBC platforms," said Notre Dame vice president and athletics director Jack Swarbrick.

"Specifically, the evolution of the NBC Sports Network has provided opportunities for special programming featuring inside looks at our football team and several other Notre Dame sports programs and in-depth profiles on the unsung heroes of Notre Dame athletics. These are examples of the growth of our partnership, and we look forward to collaborating on additional projects and distribution strategies in seasons to come."

As for the Notre Dame games with ACC schools:

In 2014, Notre Dame will play host to Louisville, North Carolina and Wake Forest. The Irish will have road games against Florida State and Syracuse.

In 2015, Clemson, Pittsburgh and Virginia will play host to the Irish, with Notre Dame hosting Boston College and Georgia Tech.

In 2016, the Irish will play host to Duke, Miami and Virginia Tech and will have road contests with NC State and Syracuse.
