Northside High vandalism attributed to senior prank

WASHINGTON, N.C. -

Nearly a dozen students are facing serious consequences after getting busted for a senior prank.

Beaufort County deputies say over the weekend, students from Northside High School toilet-papered the campus, painted "Class of 2013" across windows and signs, spattered eggs on doors and moved parking barriers.

Investigators say the kids took the prank too far and say it borders on a crime.

"In this particular case, the students committed injury to real property. Their activities had to be cleaned up so there was a significant amount of time that had to be put into returning the campus to its original condition," said Maj. Kenneth Watson, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Major Watson says the vandalism could've amounted to a misdemeanor.

Instead, according to the Beaufort County superintendent, the students will be dealt with internally. He wouldn't specify, but their punishment could range from simply paying for the damage to suspension or even expulsion.
