Local businesses offering information for young parents
GREENVILLE, N.C. -
Pitt County's infant mortality rate is higher than the state average and a maternity fair looked to change that Saturday.
The 21st Annual "Making Pitt Babies Fit" maternity fair was hosted by the Pitt County Health Department and others at the Greenville Convention Center.
9 On Your Side's Andrea Blanford emceed the events and got a chance to talk with many of you.
The event serves as a venue to provide community education to parents on the leading causes of infant death and available services for families.
"We're trying to, hopefully, improve the birth outcomes by linking families with all the local resources that could help them improve those outcomes," said Amy Hattem, event organizer with the health department.
The fair's grand prize was a fully furnished baby's room with crib and all. The event was free to the public.
