Former nightclub fire under investigation in Hyde County

Posted: Updated:
ENGELHARD, N.C. -

Fire officials are working to figure out what started a fire at a former nightclub in Hyde County.

Emergency Services Director Justin Gibbs tells 9 On Your Side the fire at what used to be "The Millennium" started around 10:15 Sunday night.

The club is located off Highway 264 about three miles outside Engelhard.

Gibbs says the building was fully envovled when firefighters arrived. They were able to put out the fire without any injuries.

The proximity of the building to nearby woods was cause for concern. Gibbs says forestry officials were on scene but the fire never reached the wood line.

Crews cleared the scene around 2 a.m. Monday. Gibbs says investigators will return today to reassess the damage and try to figure out what started the fire.
