A Fayetteville native is getting national attention as a competitor on this season of "The Voice" – NBC's hit singing competition show. Luke Edgemon graduated from Massey Hill Classical High School. His parents and younger brother still live in Fayetteville.

"He was always a noise maker with some kind of music somewhere," said Luke's dad Barry Edgemon.

The senior Edgemon said Luke really got his start singing in church musicals at age three or four. After high school Luke hit the road with a band. That led him to full time work as a singer in Los Angeles, and now "The Voice."

"[He's had] really great breaks, and some great people, and good friends that helped him out quite a bit," Edgemon said.

Kesha Reaves is thrilled to see Luke's success. She was his vocal coach at Fayetteville's Destiny Now Church.

"I noticed this sultry voice that he had and all of these different musical genres that he could sing," she recalled.

Reeves and Edgemon said they can feel support for Luke growing locally and across the country. Not only do they hear about people watching the show, Luke's Facebook likes and Twitter followers have exploded, along with Instagram and YouTube too.

"I think that everybody around Fayetteville and the surrounding areas are just excited," Reaves said.

Edgemon is just hoping Luke advances to the live episodes of "The Voice." At that point he and his wife would go to L.A. to cheer on their son.

"We have no idea in how to predict this, but whatever the case may be we know for sure that this is monumental in his next step," Edgemon said.

"The Voice" airs Monday and Tuesday night's at 8 p.m.
