A Greene County animal control officer is recovering after a small explosion at the animal shelter.

It happened back on April 10th.

Health Director Michael Rhodes said officer Randy Hawkins was lighting the incinerator at the shelter when it exploded. He said the force of the blast threw Hawkins 10 feet off the ground and into an emergency trailer.

He had 1st degree burns to his face, a damaged lung and hearing loss.

Hawkins is the only animal control officer in the county. There's no word yet on when he'll return.
