McCrory unveils 'innovation center' for government

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Gov. Pat McCrory says a computer technology continuing education and testing center will ensure North Carolina state employees learn the latest technology and that products actually work before they're purchased for state government.

McCrory announced Thursday the creation of an "innovation center" housed in the headquarters of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Raleigh. It will be available to all state agencies.

The center will serve as a hub for chief information officers and other government agency representatives to try out new technology and learn how they work. Ultimately citizens will be asked to try demonstrations of new state government technology products to see if they are useful.

The governor says the center won't cost additional state funds and will be fully operational in several months.
