Magazine writers arrive to learn and write about Crystal Coast

EMERALD ISLE, N.C. -

A group of journalists from across the country are in eastern North Carolina to take advantage of all the Crystal Coast has to offer.

The Crystal Coast Tourism Authority invited 10 journalists from different publications, including Yachting Magazine and Jezebel, for an all expenses paid trip.

They'll spend the next three days dining at some of the area's finest seafood restaurants and checking out Cape Lookout, the Shackleford Banks, and of course, the beach.

Some of these visitors say it's the first time in North Carolina.

"I flew out of Atlanta this morning into New Bern, and then I enjoyed a really beautiful drive over here, had some rain, now it's sunny and I'm at this amazing beach house," said Kelsey Bjelland, a magazine editor for Jezebel.

Anna Whiddon, spokeswoman for the Crystal Coast Tourism Authority, says she's hoping that, in exchange for a free trip, these writers will write glowing reviews about the coast and encourage more visitors to come, just in time for tourism season.

"Tourism is basically a life-blood for the Crystal Coast, pumping millions of dollars into the local economy, so it's huge for us," she said.
