Cherry Point shows off bomb disposal robots

Posted: Updated:

Technology can do some amazing things these days, and the military is using it to their advantage.

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point gave a rare demonstration Friday, showing off some unique robots. They're used for finding and getting rid of bombs.
Some of them can climb stairs, open car doors, and even pull trucks weighing thousands of pounds. But their main function is to save lives.

"The biggest way to stay safe around explosives is to stay away from them, so this gives us a remote capability to go ahead and do a reconnaissance of the item and remotely manipulate it without putting us at risk at all," said Gunnery Sgt. Bernard Coyne, Explosive Ordinance Disposal team leader.

The explosives team has three types of bomb-disposing robots, and they say they train with them every week.
