FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Students at Fayetteville's Methodist University are donating money to the One Fund Boston thanks to a tribute run Saturday morning.

Juniors Leighanne Truelove and Cierra Murphy teamed up to organized the event in about a week.

"A lot of times you have the reaction and aren't really sure what to do about it," Truelove said. "So we wanted to create an opportunity for that to happen."

The two-mile run and walk was free for participants. So the money was raised through donations. Students and the general public participated, and by the end of the event, more than $400 was raised.

"It feels really good to know that everybody can come together as one," Murphy said. "It doesn't matter about politics or race or religion. We're all Americans. That's one thing we have in common."

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino announced One Fund Boston, which has raised more than $25 million dollars so far.
