JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

Multiple tire deflation devices were used during a car chase that ended with the driver almost hitting a police officer.

Jacksonville Police say it happened Saturday evening.  That's when they were called to the Triangle Mobile Home Park to remove an impaired man from a home there.

Police say the suspect, 22-year-old Edward A. Gibson ran from officers, driving down US Hwy 17 southbound.  Holly Ridge Police attempted to use tire deflation devices but they did not stop the Gibson's vehicle.  It took another set of deflation devices to finally stop the car and police say, during that time, Gibson attempted to hit one of the deploying officers with his car.

Gibson was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon on Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Speed to Elude Arrest, Failure to Yield for Blue Lights/Siren, DWI, Careless and Reckless, Aggressive Driving, Possession Schedule VI Controlled Substance (Spice), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and a number of traffic violations.

Gibson's bond was set at $27,000.
