BLOUNTVILLE, TN (WJHL) -

A Blountville Elementary School teacher who took her class to the park for a field trip ended up being a victim of identity theft.

Police say on April 18 the elementary teacher said she left her bag containing her wallet in a building next to the lake while she went with the students to the playground at Steele Creek Park.

A little while later, the teacher was notified by Eastman Credit Union that suspicious purchases had just been made on her account. When the victim checked her wallet she noticed her credit card was missing.

Three of the charges to the victim's credit card were at Sears located on Gate City Highway in Bristol, Virginia and another one occurred at Scotchman Market located on West State Street in Bristol.

Surveillance video at Scotchman showed a man, later identified as 30-year-old Jorge Cervantes, using the victim's card. Witnesses also stated that Cervantes was observed at the park prior to the credit card being stolen.

As a result a warrant was issued for Cervantes for theft and two counts of identity theft.  He was arrested Friday afternoon and taken to the Sullivan County Correctional Facility.
