GREENVILLE, N.C. -

A woman has turned herself in on charges of child abduction.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says the girls went missing back in December.

The father of the girls, 15 and 12, told deputies that they had left with their mother, 61-year-old Therese Ignacita Garcia, and hadn't been seen since. A valid custody visitation order in place gave custody to the father of the children.

Extensive investigation into the girl's disappearance showed Garcia had allegedly taken the girls to New Mexico. Deputies obtained 2 counts of abduction of a child following the revelation.

Garcia returned with the girls Monday and turned herself into Greenville Police, who contacted the PCSO. She was taken to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office and placed under a $400,000 secured bond.
