Wildlife Officials investigating pelican deaths

Posted: Updated:

Wildlife Officials are investigating an increase in pelican deaths on two North Carolina beaches.

Toni O' Neil, director at the Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary in Hubert, says up to three pelicans a day are washing up on beaches in Surf City and Topsail Beach.  Dead pelicans have been washing up in the area for months, but it was initially just 1-3 per week.

O'Neil says she isn't sure exactly what's causing the deaths.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the North Carolina Wildlife Federation at 919-833-1923.
