Promoter says concert-goers will get a refund

Posted: Updated:

After some concert-goers were left waiting for refunds after a Keyshia Cole concert is canceled, the promoter says they will get their money back.

This comes a day after the promoter Lorenzo Ferguson was scheduled to give fans refunds at the Greenville Convention Center, but did not show up.

Next Level Incorportated issued this statement on their facebook page on:

"Sorry for the delay, I'm in the process of suing Keyshia Cole for not performing and my lawyers advised me not to respond until they were able to file. So, now I can respond, there is NO WAY I would ever not refund EVERYONE for their purchased tickets, I just needed to get some legal advice regarding my contract with Keyshia. That being said, I have to have documentation for the remaining refunded tickets. Everyone who has not received their refund please email me at nlinc.events@gmail.com , include your full name, mailing address, outlet were you purchased your ticket(s), number of ticket(s) purchased and the number on the ticket(s). Once received, you will receive your FULL REFUND within 48hr by way of certified check. Once again, I'm very sorry for the delay and any problems this has caused, but I was advised to have detailed documentation of this lawsuit," said Next Levelinc.

R&B artist Keyshia Cole released a statement to disappointed concert-goers in eastern Carolina Tuesday.

Cole was scheduled to perform at the Greenville Convention Center Saturday, but fans, who lined up hours before the concert, were turned away an hour after the concert was supposed to start.

Cole's management said the show was canceled due to the promoter's inability to provide basic production, including sound, lighting, staging and general safety requirements.

"To the City Of Greenville and all my fans.  I sincerely want to apologize for the cancellation of my concert Saturday night. I was ready to give you all a great show. Upon my arrival to the venue, not only was the stage not secure but the sound system was not connected.  The promoter, Lorenzo Ferguson of Next Level Inc.., did not have adequate lighting, microphones, and other key equipment essentials  that he was to provide. My staff as well as The Greenville Convention staff worked tirelessly to try and rectify the situation. Ultimately, it was clear that I was not going to be able to perform with no sound and lights and by 7pm still nothing was working!! I have done a show with Mr. Ferguson in the past so he absolutely knows what was needed. I always want to give my fans the absolute best Keyshia Cole show possible. I am truly disappointed and deeply saddened at the turn of events," said Keyshia Cole.

Ferguson later said fans could get their refunds by bringing their tickets to the Greenville Convention Center Monday after 1 p.m., but he never showed up.

"I feel like it's a scam. This is a $110 worth that they're saying that we're not going to get back," said Maquitta Sherrod

"Beyond pissed off, because we done stayed in the line Saturday for three hours, some four, and now we're standing in line again," said Sharon Anderson.

On Sunday, 9 On Your Side talked to the event promoter, Lorenzo Ferguson, to find out what happened. Ferguson said he worked with Cole before and never had problem. He said the cancellation only hurt the fans.

"She walked in she saw the stage. She complained about the building and she said she wasn't going to perform. We did everything we could to accommodate what she was looking for and what she needed, but she basically said she wasn't going to perform because it wasn't adequate enough for her. I just hope at the city understands that this is definitely a situation, where I did everything possible to make this deal happen," said Ferguson.

The artist's Twitter page later confirmed that Cole thought the stage wasn't stable enough to perform. She also apologized.

There were some questions about whether singer Chrisette Michele was scheduled to open up for Cole. 9 On Your Side learned from her mother and manger, Linette Payne, that was not true.

"We did not receive a payment, we didn't receive a contract, we didn't' receive an offer at all from the situation. For him to stand there and walk way with money is ridiculous," said Payne.

Payne also said Michele appreciates and loves her fans and always fulfills her commitments. She added the whole situation is disappointing to fans and Michele.

If you purchased your tickets through the convention center with a credit card, just call them for a refund. If you purchased tickets with cash, you can go to the convention center and pick up your refund.

If you purchased your tickets through another venue, you can contact Next Level Incorporated at (305)-746-3799.

9 On Your Side will pass along any new developments in the story.
