SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) -

A Surfside Beach woman was arrested over the weekend after police said her 9-year-old handicapped son ingested too many pills.

According to an Hory County police report, Katherine Grace McAndrew, 45, was arrested Friday afternoon after EMS was called to her home for a reported oversose.

A witness told police McAndrew said she was going to kill herself and take him with her.

McAndrew told police she had given the boy two Diazepam (Valium 5mg).  When the boy was taken to Waccamaw Hospital for treatment, the doctor said the prescription was filled on April 26 for 30 pills.  The bottle was empty when it arrived at the hospital and McAndrew could not explain what had happened to all the pills, the report said.

McAndrew was charged with unlawful neglect of a child and held on a $25,000 bond.

The child was placed in the custody of family members.
