Tampa's Picnic Island beach issued health advisory

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The Florida Department of Health has issued a health advisory for Picnic Island beach based on the criteria for enterococci bacteria recommended by the EPA.

Officials with the department say that it is considered a potential risk to the bathing public entering the water at that location.  Samples taken Monday were above the threshold for enterococci bacteria. The beach will be re-sampled Monday.  The agency reports that Davis Island beach remains open.

For more information about beach water quality, visit the Department of Health's Internet Beach Water Quality website at www.floridashealth.com/beachwater (To review the beach water sampling results for reporting counties, click on a county name).
