Plant City woman sentenced for tax fraud

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

A U.S. District judge sentenced a Plant City woman to more than three years in federal prison for tax fraud and aggravated identity theft.

According to court documents, Rhonda Yvette Brooks submitted fraudulent tax returns electronically through Turbo Tax from her residence. She also submitted tax returns for several fictitious identities provided by the IRS in an undercover operation.  Overall, Brooks submitted fraudulent tax returns totaling more than $70,000.

As part of her sentence, the court also ordered a forfeiture money judgment and restitution order in the amount of $23,096 for funds traceable to proceeds of the offense. 

Brooks pleaded guilty on February 20, 2013.
