There is still a line for tacos at Taco Fusion in South Tampa, but you can't get one with lion.

The decision to offer tacos with lion meat generated a lot of attention for the restaurant.

Manager Brad Barnett says, "We have gotten mixed reviews, we have gotten a lot of positive, and a lot negative."

On the restaurant's web site, there's now a message telling customers they're no longer offering lion tacos.

"We haven't determined whether we are going to get it back in, or not just get it in," says Barnett.

That is welcome news to the people at Big Cat Rescue in northern Hillsborough County.

Jeff Kremer with Big Cat Rescue said, "We are delighted the restaurant has taken the initiative to pull the lion off the menu.  Now our hope is that will be a long term decision."

Kremer thinks pressure from the public, especially through social media, forced the restaurant's hand.

"This is another great example where the mass majority of the public feels this is not an appropriate action, and they have spoken up," said Kremer.  "We hope the business responds in an appropriate manner."

Some customers say they'll try the lion, if it makes a return to the menu.

"A lot of people eat exotic foods in different countries, they eat things that to us may not seem normal ... it is trying new things, nothing wrong with that," said customer Therrion Grooms.

While the manager at Taco Fusion rethinks the offering of lion meat tacos, he's baffled that it led to phone threats.

"If someone wants to come down and have a conversation, I'm here all day, but calling over the phone and threatening to kill our cashier, threatening bodily harm, they are going to burn the building down, just doesn't make any sense to a normal person," said Barnett.

In the meantime, other exotic meats will remain on the menu.
