Update: Kinston Police investigating two weekend shootings

Police are investigating two shootings within two days in Kinston.

The first one happened around 8:30 Friday night in the 800 block of East Caswell St. Police said the victim, 19-year-old Jaquel Maurice Dixon, was shot in the abdomen. He was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center. 

Shelton Mason turned himself in Monday before lunch. He was wanted by police in connection with the Friday night shooting. Mason faces charges for Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday officers responded to a shots fired call at 1001 N. McLewean St. in Kinston. Witnesses told police two people were firing from a silver four door vehicle.

We're told about 20 minutes later, two gunshot victims arrived at the Lenoir Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.  Officers found 19-year-old Jamal Pridgen and 20-year-old Dashawn Maye each had been shot once in the leg.  The victims told officers they were shot while walking on North Mclewean St. north of Vernon Ave.  Both victims were transported to Vidant Medical Center for treatment.
